Background

In December 2024, I intended to get a safe to keep my valuables at home. As such, I searched online for one and found the Honeywell Waterproof Fire Chest - Medium 0.25 cu ft (1533).

As the size seems suitable, I decided to purchase it.

The Stuff

The Honeywell Waterproof Fire Chest - Medium 0.25 cu ft (Model 1533) is a small, portable safe designed to protect valuables from fire and water damage. Here are the key features:

  • Fire Protection: Provides up to 30 minutes of fire protection for documents and valuables at temperatures up to 1,550°F (843°C).
  • Waterproof: It is designed to be waterproof for up to 24 hours at a depth of 39 inches, protecting contents from water damage in the event of flooding or leaks.
  • Size: Internal dimensions: 99 mm H x 333 mm W x 215 mm D (0.25 cubic feet). Suitable for storing documents, small electronics, and other personal items.
  • Locking Mechanism: Equipped with 2 keys to keep your items secure.
  • Durability: The fire chest has a robust, impact-resistant case that can withstand rough handling while keeping the contents safe.

Usage and Experience

I have used the Honeywell Waterproof Fire Chest - Medium 0.25 cu ft (1533) for a few weeks since this post. As it is also considered a safe, it is very heavy even though it can be carried around.

Putting A4 documents flat is not an issue but with A4 document holders will have to bend unless it is almost exactly the same dimensions. I am still able to close it. As such, it is best used to store small valuable items.

I wanted another model (1553) that includes additional 4-digit push buttons. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find one that ships to my location.
